Dear Summer

Dear Summer,
My paradoxical season of change.

You have been my Winter;
Bare branches,
Frozen.

“Release me, release me.”

You have been my Spring;
Fragrant flowers,
Blooming

“Embrace me, embrace me.”

In the tree-lined Boulevard Saint-Germain,
We were children with mischief in our eyes,
Scampering off to play.

Chasing nothing –
And everything at the same time.
Our laughter spoke the same language:

“I am so happy right now.
I am so, so happy.”

This is how I will remember you.

Sometimes,
I selfishly wonder if you think of me at all.
If you do –
Do you remember all the trouble we caused?

Unspoken goodbyes;
The most bittersweet.

You are still and tender.
You are wild and karmic.

This morning,
I finally caught a falling leaf,
On the coldest Autumn day.

I thought of you,
And then I thought of us –
Laughing together:

“I am so happy right now.
I am so, so happy.”
